A Line in the Sand: Making Waves against skin cancer and sun protection

When Line in the Sand founder Lynne O’Brien was told by her oncologist to stay out of the sun, she said “to hell with that” and created some of the world’s first purpose-made UPF waterwear. Her swim leggings and full-sleeve swim dresses were a reimagination of a fashion segment; built around the idea that women could be comfortable and stylish on the water while remaining protected from the sun. Lynne never took the easy route, choosing to use well-paid labor and the best sustainable materials – even in the middle of the pandemic when it looked like the fabric might never arrive from Italy. Oh, and by the way, 100% of Line in the Sand’s profits are donated to ocean related charities. Can it get any better than that?!

Custom Accessories

When our friends at Vervaine Design Studio asked if we could help develop a line of accessories to support the Line in the Sand product launch we were thrilled. We worked with Lynne and her team to identify and source accessories that aligned with the brand’s values and mission.

Manufacturing Partnerships

We found like-minded businesses to collaborate with like Waterhaul to have limited edition sunglasses made from ocean bound recycled fishing nets (these were the coolest color green); Marine Layer to have the softest, most well made garment blanks custom dyed and printed in the US; and even a hatmaker in Mexico to produce hand-made straw hats we had designed collectively by sharing pictures of various hat parts by email – booyah to Google Translate for that assist!

To say that we are proud of our small role in helping this brand get off the ground is an understatement. Please run out and support this great business and tell them we sent you.
